WELCOME TO THE PAGE! (and Review of The Disko Starz - Paris by Night EP)

I am Nick aka DJ Supernick, a 20-year-old filter house and nu-disco producer from Texas.

Since 2022, I have been listening to a lot of French house music in general (e.g. Crydamoure, The Disko Starz, Le Nonsense, DeeJMD, Mr. Oizo, etc.) I started this page for various reasons:

                                    a. Blog house popularity dwindled after MySpace shut down.

                                                       b. It's my favorite music genre ever

                                           c. My internet friends are also into this kind of music

                                           d. To keep the genre alive AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!

We will start off with an amazing review of an album The Disko Starz put out a LONG time ago.

THE DISKO STARZ - PARIS BY NIGHT EP (2008)

The Disko Starz consists of Dawood Helmandi and his cousin, Nickmal Helmandi. Josh Hubi (Silver Disco) was also part of the group for a while. Dawood started DJing in 1996 and started producing in 2005. However, it is not confirmed if there were some tracks he did during that time period until 2007. Going back, the album has ELEVEN tracks total. It was released on July 29, 2008.

TRACK REVIEWS!

1. Paris By Night

Paris By Night is a track that has been recognized by many fans out there. It samples Instant Funk - I Got My Mind Made Up! The version you hear in this album lasts only 5:08 long. The more popular version, on the other hand, is shorter and remastered (especially the beginning part).

2. Silverstar (The Phantom's Revenge Remix)

At first, I thought the first version appeared in this EP, but I read the track duration on Rate Your Music that it was 5:14. The first version was a little bit shorter, but then I found this on Soulseek. Great use of the sample "Starlight" by Risque.

3. Smooth Love (part 2) (ft. Demasi & Koki)

The BEST one on this album. Even the excessively loopy songs like this are just overwhelmingly amazing. Released in June 2008, it samples Gene Dunlap - It's Just the Way I Feel. This is basically a remix of Demasi - Would Love to Feel, from the Kiyoshi Volume 1 album. P.S.: Sorry for the tiny error on the underlining >.<

4. Beats 'n Bites #1

Although not really my favorite, I can still see the potential for the sampling on this one. Don't know what the sample is but still okay-ish.

                                                            Beats 'n Bites #1

5. Beats 'n Bites #2

An impressively done remix of Clarity - The way You Make Me Feel. I know Poka sampled this one in The Way. In my opinion, this is better than the first one. P.S.: The quality is lossy!!!

                                                            Beats 'n Bites #2

6. 909

Although technically not their song, it is a rather 'loopy' version of Junior Jack - Da Hype (Instrumental). It's pretty good nonetheless :)

                                                                     909

7. Stylin'

The quality for Stylin' is actually really bad. Please tell me if someone could ever find it. This song, however, is WONDERFULLY CRAFTED. Great use of the sample The B. B. & Q. Band - Mistakes.

                                                                   Stylin'

8. From Chicago with Punk

The same sample as the previous track, Stylin', is also used. The loop is also very nice! This is perhaps one of my favorites from the album. I love the tempo too, clocked in at 134 BPM unlike most of their other songs.

                                                      From Chicago with Punk

9. Superlove

This is definitely one of my favorites. Sample: Carol Williams - Love Is You. This is the 7-minute version of Superlove. The other version, which is cut to down to 6 minutes, is featured on the album French Touch. It's such a great song!

                                                                 Superlove

10. Love

This track, also known as Bruno Love in the album Phantom Beatz, is a great song that samples Teri Desario - Ain't Nothin' Gonna Keep Me from You. Now THIS is definitely one of my very favorites from the entire album itself.

                                                                    Love

11. Ready For You

Gosh, I wish this track was found in higher quality. It's great, and I love the sample (Poussez! - You're All I Have) that incorporates through this song.

                                                             Ready for You

RATING: 10/10

I can tell this is more of an album rather than an EP because for many different reasons, their material is unmistakably great, so I would say this is a very neat album! In other words, it's perfectly done. I can definitely say that even though this album does not get a lot of attention and all, but this is one of the best releases of 2008!
